Interface directly with customers to provide support during various technical exercises. This first level support position will be responsible for hardware setup and configuration, provide initial problem determination and resolution steps.

Work with a wide variety of HP and Dell servers and blades running various versions of the Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems. This individual will also work with a wide diversity of tape libraries, tape drives and media. SAN-attached external storage arrays provide the respective external storage requirements that the Specialist II will be working with.

Responsibilities:

Operating System(s)/Application Software Supported:
-Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell Netware.
- Recovery Applications: (Comvault, Computer Associates BrightStor, EMC Legato Networker, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Symantec NetBackup or Symantec Backup Exec).
- Virtualization Products: VMware, Xen.
-Imaging Application: Symantec Ghost, Novell Plate Spin.

Hardware Supported:
-Intel/AMD/Itanium Servers: Compaq (HP), Dell, HP, IBM, including blade servers.
-Server firmware updates and compatibility.
-Tape Libraries/Drives /Barcode compatibility – Configure/Setup/Troubleshoot Sun (StorageTek), HP, IBM, Quantum (ADIC), Spectra Logic.
-Tape Drive/Media – AIT, SAIT, DLT, LTO, SDLT, 9840, 9940.
-Tape drive encryption.
-Assist with hardware installations and relocation as required.
-Assist with hardware troubleshooting diagnosis and repairs, swapping memory and/or I/O adapters on selected servers.

Standard Operating Procedures/Tools:
-Adhere to all ISO procedures and Sharp Iron standards.
-Utilization of LiveLink, Oracle-based scheduling system (WWSS), Remedy, and Connect.

Setup Hardware Configurations for Pending/Scheduled Recoveries:
-Install operating system(s), (sysprep image).
-Connect required disk and tape libraries/drives by patching and/or SAN zone setup.
-Storage Area Network (SAN) - zone the respective hardware as required.
-Configure Raid protection – internal storage.
-Test/validate hardware and library robotics, drives.
-Assign VLAN(s) and patch network connectivity.
-Validate that hardware/peripherals are prepped per the final hardware configuration.
-Follow all Quality Control Standards, including Sharp Iron/ISO.
-Return hardware to default configurations at conclusion of recovery.

Schedule Flexibility:
-Periodically flex schedule to provide off-hours support.

Travel:
-Periodic travel maybe required to customer locations for technical meetings and/or support.

Qualifications:
-MCP required.
-Strong knowledge of Intel/AMD server hardware required.
-Strong knowledge of at least one of the following:
*Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
*Red Hat Linux Operating Systems.
*Novell NetWare.
*Other operating System(s).
-Proficient installing/building an operating system from scratch.
-Experience with imaging products such as Symantec’s Ghost or Novell’s PlateSpin.
-Knowledge of a virtualization product (VMware, Xen).
-Proficiency with at least one backup software suite (CommVault, Computer Associates BrightStor, EMC Legato Networker, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Symantec NetBackup or Symantec Backup Exec, other recovery applications).
-Operational experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN), and Fibre Channel technology preferred.
-Operational experience with Network Attached Storage (NAS) or external disk storage arrays preferred.
-Minimum (2) year’s operational experience in a LAN Server computing environment.
-Minimum (1) year experience in a role involving direct customer contact (internal and/or external customers).
-Operational experience with enterprise-class tape libraries preferred.
-Working knowledge of TCP/IP and network technologies a plus.
-Proficiency with Windows Office-based applications (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).
-College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Must be self-motivated, team player able to immediately contribute in a fast paced, deadline intensive environment.
-Previous experience in a disaster recovery role a plus.
-Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds as needed for test set up.
-Must be able to periodically shift schedule to meet business objectives.
